Flame `n` Skewer in Ames

My wife and I love .....Flame and Skewer! The staff always makes our visit great and Mo, the owner, goes all out to make sure the food and atmosphere is awesome!

An Ames classic, great food and staff. The only down side is during rush, cleaning stalls. still great food though.

My family and I have been coming to Flame and Skewer for 20+ years. Great food. We always get the Gyro dinner & share a large Greek salad. Really haven’t tried anything else because we love Gyro so much. Found out a while ago you can order the Gyro meat by the pound to go... so have been doing that recently. Love it! Thank You & Keep up the great work! We will be coming back!!!

Had a gyro dinner, and the meat and pita was excellent. As is traditional, onion and tomato were served with it, but only a single bland tomato slice and a disk of onion which are difficult to nicely assemble into a sandwich, were served with two sandwiches worth of meat. The meal would have been greatly improved by having the option of rice and hummus rather than just a baked potato or fries.

Better than every gyro place in Des Moines. A huge portion of properly cut and properly cut gyro meat, they bring a bottle of the tzatziki sauce. Restaurant atmosphere isn't irritating like your standard theme or ethnic motif restaurant. Quiet, comfortable place to eat with friendly service. Fries aren't the best fries I've had a Greek place, but they're above average.

Using margarine for the Chicken Kiev, toast, and baked potato was disappointing for this butter lover. Even still, very good. Quick and hot. Great vinaigrette dressing. Oregano?

It’s hard to find decent gyros in Iowa, this the exception. The meat was not greasy, light and perfectly seasoned. There was a lot of it! The pita bread was grilled and not burnt. Now let’s discuss the little things. Real sweet butter in a larger single serving packet. Creamy and smooth and not frozen. The salt and pepper shakers were clean inside and outside. The glimpse into the kitchen showed a clean well organized space. Twinkly lights around the ceiling perimeter to set a wonderful ambience. Go eat here, you won’t be disappointed

Only place I've found a good gyro in Ames. Conveniently located inside the mall.

We' took a chance for a very (off the main Hwy 35) restaurant. It could use a little bright happiness added to the interior. But the food was good, and reasonable. We had sirloin and sirloin & shrimp. The steak was tender and the side of veggies grilled with herbs

We have always gound the flame and skewer to hsve great food and service. Plus a couple of people can dine quietly or a group can dine and visit with each other. We have been eating there for many years and would recomend the restaurant to anyone. They have a variety of food for everyone.

This reminds me of the old time diner. Friendly but busy staff, a wide selection on their menu and the reason we went.....gyros. I moved to Iowa two years ago. I live near Cedar Rapids and have been unable to find a good gyro place. My kid now goes to ISU and we stumbled upon a review of this place. It did not disappoint. The pita was hot, crispy on the outside and chewy in the inside. The gyro meat was tender and delicious. We will be back!

One of our family's favorite spots. I love the gyro here. Well run, long history in Ames with great service. Carry out is also an option here.

The Mo's Salad is excellent, and of course you can't go wrong with the Gyro or the Souvlaki!

Recently went for the first time in a long time for a gyro sandwich and it was exactly what I wanted! Still really good even though I’ve been eating here for about 10 years it seems on and off.

Had the haddock here today...must say it was the best I have had ever. The establishment in itself is a very friendly environment!

Amazing little restaurants. Steak was absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection! My wife and myself were served by Kylie. Probably one of the greatest servers we've ever had anywhere!

A "steak sandwich," only comes with one piece of bread. The steak wasn't rested so it just splurged juices constantly. Also the meal $9.99 and a glass of meh tea was $2.25????

How can I say, “EXCEPTIONAL “ when it comes to food and service? I have patronized this eating establishment for more than 25 years and never once had a bad meal. For me, it’s a destination in Ames, IA. Mo and Jeri know how to take care of their customers. Thumbs Up folks!

We were looking for someplace different, so decided we"d try the Greek place. I had the gyro salad. Delicious, fresh, and with plenty of meat. My companion had the gyros dinner. It had lots of meat too. And the pita looked homemade. The waitress was professional and answered all our questions. Food was hot and arrived quickly. We'll be back.

I had the sirloin steak. It cooked perfectly. It was hot and juicy. The staff were attentive and friendly. I'll definitely be returning in the future.

Overall pretty good, fast friendly service, refilled frequently. No wifi or delivery, they cater, bike rack is available...

I had the veggie burger and it was by far the best veggie burger I've ever had! The sweet potato fries really really good also! I want to go back again to try the Baklava which I'm sure is amazing!

An Ames and North grand Mall institution. One of the very few surviving original mall businesses. The staff is always good, the food is great, service is usually pretty quick, and prices are very reasonable. A bit short on atmosphere.

Don't judge by the decor the food is great and the process are appropriate for what you get. They also gave out Tazo tea bags for their hot tea option.
